Fantasy Images
While the photographer Gadliger works in reality and prefers to get people in front of his lens, the artistic draughtsman Gadliger likes to turn to apparitions from the dream world, such as animal figures, which he deforms and combines with abstract elements. Snapshots of external and internal states come together. Gadliger prefers the small format. The grand gesture is far from his mind. His art is to be discovered up close. The A4 format imposes limitations. But the narrowness here is a section of the expanse. The same size always serves as a hatch that draws the eye into the distance. Games of observation arise in the meandering of the pencil and lose themselves again in the rapids of the fantastic.

Werner Gadliger creates compositions of mysterious beauty, far removed from the usual, far removed from any pandering to any trend. At the end of the 1970s, Gadliger discovered the art of etching. Labyrinthine spaces open up to the imagination on the smallest of surfaces. The format preserves the intimacy between the picture and the viewer. Only at close range can you take a walk in this magical micro-world.
